Father Eternal, by the merits of your obedient son, Cardinal Egan, our beloved shepherd, transform his life of love and grace sacrifice and suffering into the image of our Lord Jesus Christ. Fill our hearts with comfort and peace, with the fire of your love, to be a vessel to bring the Bread of Life to all your people, as Cardinal Egan has prayed. For all thy gifts we receive, may they bring honor and glory to your Holy Name. Amen

I had the pleasure of meeting His Eminence in the early 2000’s. He was truly a gentleman and reflected the love of Jesus. Catholics everywhere, not just New York, have lost a mighty prayer warrior. I know Our Blessed Mother welcomed him and took him by the hand to introduce him to Our Lord. My condolences to my fellow New Yorkers and Cardinal Egan’s family, biologic and church.

Although I do not live or work in the Archdiocese of New York, to me the Archdiocese stands for so much that is good and holy in the Church in the United States. Cardinal Egan was a shining example of that goodness and holiness. I remember his strong yet gentle guidance during the difficult days after September 11, 2001. He was a shepherd after the Heart of the Good Shepherd. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, receive his soul.

    His Eminencene Timothy Dolan,
    Dear Cardinal Dolan,
My family and I are very saddened over the death of Cardinal Egan, I must share this wonderful story with you, December 2006 our mother was diagnosed with two brain tumors also an aneurysm, , I went to Boston to bring my mother to see a Dr. K post M.D. a neurosurgical doctor at Mount Sinai Hospital..we did attend midnight mass with the Great Cardinal Egan,at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. After the Mass With God’s blessing Cardonal Egan left the altar and came toward the right side of the church where we were sitting in the back also we were all desperate for spiritual healing.I believe this would’ve been her 30th surgical operation, we thought for sure the Brain surgery would have been the end of her life,. my brother-in-law approached the Cardinal ,and requested that he blessed our Mother Margie Griffin, (she did have the Tumor removed the week of the Passover 2007, and did quite well.
This is a true story,I hope someday Cardinal Egan is added The list of Saint Hood,
I would like to give you a little history of our mother she was born in Marksville Louisiana, her parents were devout Catholic, also they would walk 2 miles each Sunday to attend Mass, due too segregation, Our Grandmother had 11 sibling, they would all walk together each Sunday to attend mass.in Hickory Hill Louisiana. I recently went to visit the graveyard they are both buried at Holy Ghost Catholic Cemetery, in Marksville Louisiana.
My mother still alive at age 88 she believe Cardnial Eagan Was One of God’s disciple here on earth..due to his blessing she is still alive. My Mother lives in Boston Massachusetts, every day at 6:30 PM my family Pray with Father Reed on the Catholic channel.
Please offer our condolences to the staff at the archdiocese and his family,.
I hope in the near future that we get to write nice things about each Cardinal, regarding their hard work dead devotion and caring personality. I know you I close to Pope Francis, please convey to him that the cardinal should be added to The Saint Hood.
    With sincere gratitude.
