This December my wife Lisa and I will have been married for 36 years. To take a line from a movie “she makes me want to be a better man” through her prayers for me. With Lisa I have joy and contentment in my life.

Dear Cardinal Dolan, forgive me. Nice reflection (as usual). However, if the Church REALLY supported married couples, we would not be having another Synod. See St. John Paul’s Familiaris consortio, nos. 65 and 70 (para. 2). 35 years ago. Where is the evidence that the first Synod had any significant impact? What makes us think the current one will if you and your fellow bishops do not take action instead of more writing, talking, posturing, pledging? To quote Francis, “a Christianity which ‘does’ little in practice, while incessantly ‘explaining’ its teachings, is dangerously unbalanced. I would even say that it is stuck in a vicious circle.” We shall see if this Synod is a waste of the faithful’s tithes or if it leads to courageous, prayerful, developmental, orthodox, evangelizing and converting action to strengthen the heartbeat of the church – the domestic church. If it does not, another Synod 30 + years from now may be too late. You remain in my prayers.

Thank you for these words! So many times I have heard friends and family talk about wanting attraction and passion in their relationships, and I feel they lose sight of the passion and attraction that evolves in a marriage where both partners dare to dream together with God at the center of their relationship. My husband is my best freind and God continues to exceed the dreams we dare to have – we feel the support of God’s bride, the church – So thank you!
