If it weren’t for our religious freedom or respect for our differences….we would all be clones. I believe God is challenging those who love him to embrace their faith, our differences, a a special wholesome, sacred grace in order to protect mankind.

Cardinal Dolan: Thanks for bringing to the forefront the areas of concern. So much of media tramples all views making it difficult to discern truth. Your commentaries not only enlighten but bring with it a sense of urgency needed to stir up “sleeping Christians”. May God reward you for following HIM.

    Dear Eminence:
I continue to wrestle with the problem of various Archdiocese-related organizations having agreed by union agreements to pay for birth control and possibly procedures that could be abortifacient in nature. I must assume that when entered into, if our late Cardinal O’Connor was aware of them then, he might have had to use some balancing formula to approve of them. Now, however, when defending the position of the Archdiocese and that of many other diocese in the country in relation to the federal health care mandate affecting Catholic and Catholic-related institutions, I find it difficulty to make a decisive argument. I note also that, in defense of the Archdiocese position regarding the union contracts at issue, the only response we lay members have had is an explanation of the conditions under which the union contracts were entered into, but not the moral principles justifying the decision–and that was delivered only by a public relations principal of the Archdiocese with no word of defense that I am aware of from our Archbishop. Can a more authoritative moral defense thus be made?
    Respectfully and with great love,
    Thomas J. Martin

“We are also urging practical action to defend our freedom.” Specifically what action should we be taking?
