Your Excellency: As a fifth generation – 100% Polish American on all sides of the family and a priest of 30 years, it was a blessing and a delight to read your Pulaski Day message. It is a time of considerable sorrow for our communities in the Northeastern US. I guess we are the victims of our own success. As each generation of my ethnic community advances further in education and economic success, our formerly great polish city neighborhoods and enclaves become more empty, and the great basilicas and parishes built by our grandparents and greatgrandparents, continue to be closed one after another in so many dioceses. It was a moment of great joy to read of your kind recognition of our heritage! It was an exceedingly rare moment of grace, coming from what our old people would call an “Irish” bishop. Oremus pro invicem!
