Well, the Synod for the New Evangelization here in Rome is winding down. On Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate the closing Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. On Monday, I’m coming home! This is Friday, and I’m daydreaming .
I’ve pretty much been praying the same morning offering since my first Holy Communion. Every once in a while, I’ll make a change or addition to my memorized prayer … and that happened this very day at 6:00 a.m.
Feast of the North American Martyrs Year of Faith My communications from Rome these past couple of weeks have often mentioned that this Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization takes place in the context of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council.
Let me share with you my remarks from yesterday evening’s 67th Annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner. It traditionally falls to the host of this enjoyable evening, the Archbishop of New York, to “call it a night.” Thank you, everybody, for your gracious company this evening.

October 15, 2012 Feast of Saint Teresa of Jesus Year of Faith One of the points made over-and-over again here at the Synod in Rome is that the parish is on the front lines of the New Evangelization! We bishops can talk “until we’re blue in the face” — and, believe me, some do over here!
Yesterday I took possession of my “Titular Church” in Rome, Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Monte Mario section of the city. Every Cardinal has a Church in Rome because, originally, the Cardinal were the priests of Rome — and it is they who elect the Bishop of Rome, our Holy Father.

Observations on the Synod regarding the New Evangelization Feast of Blessed John XXIII 50 th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council Opening of the Year of Faith For us pastors from the United States, this fraternal gathering in Rome is a powerful reminder of how young we are!
This morning I delivered my remarks at the Synod for the New Evangelization . I would like to share a copy of my text with you. AMDG JMJ Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan Synod Intervention Tuesday, October 9, 2012 The great American evangelist, The Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, commented, “The first word of Jesus in the Gospel was ‘ come’; the last word of Jesus was ‘ go’ .” The New Evangelization reminds us that the very agents of evangelization must first be evangelized themselves.

Here I am in Rome all month for the Synod on the New Evangelization . I miss all of you already – – but my next bowl of Spaghetti alla Carbonara will snap me out of it. How do we renew, restore, repair, re-energize our faith in the Person, message, and invitation of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

This morning, I offered my testimony on Chief Judge Lippman’s proposal to expand civil legal aid on behalf of the poor. Here is a copy of my remarks. Chief Judge Lippman; Presiding Justice Gonzalez; Judge Prudenti; Bar Association President James; neighbors united in the notable cause of justice and service: I come this morning very grateful for the chance to promote an initiative I consider crucial and promising for this city and state I am now proud to call my earthly home; I come with deep admiration for the prophetic leadership of Chief Judge Lippman, encouraged by other esteemed jurists like Judge Gail Prudenti and Mr. Thomas More; as well as our own Catholic Lawyers Guild.
