Earlier today I held a press conference to announce that Judge Barbara S. Jones, former Federal Judge and prosecutor, has accepted my invitation to serve as “Special Counsel and Independent Reviewer” to review, evaluate, and recommend improvements to the Archdiocese of New York’s response to the sexual abuse crisis currently confronting the Church.
September 20, 2018 Dear Family of the Archdiocese of New York: Over this difficult summer, I’ve done a lot of listening. Many of you have told me that you are upset, angry, bewildered, and frustrated about the ongoing crisis of sexual abuse in the Church.

This evening, our Jewish neighbors begin their solemn observance of Yom Kippur , the most sacred event of their year. I wish our Jewish friends the fullness of God’s abundant grace and mercy, and assure you of a solidarity in prayer.
Today on Conversation with Cardinal Dolan , I’m joined by Bishop Timothy Doherty of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, Chair of the USCCB Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People, to discuss the work of the Committee and the National Review Board since the Dallas Charter.
Last weekend, I offered Mass at historic St. Peter’s Church on Barclay Street downtown. You might recall that on 9/11 and in its aftermath, this venerable church served as a sanctuary, first-aid station, hospice, relief center, and even a mortuary.
