The brutal and senseless attack at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria yesterday is another in a growing number of attacks on Christians in Nigeria. Yesterday’s attack was especially horrific, as at least 50 worshippers were slaughtered merely for gathering to celebrate the great Feast of Pentecost, traditionally recognized as the “birthday of the Church.”
Last night I celebrated Mass at Saint Rita's in the Bronx and received the relic of Blessed Carlos Acutis. He is a shining model for the faithful young people of the world who want to make a difference.
Let me begin by thanking you for the many calls, cards, messages of sympathy, and, most importantly, your prayers for the repose of the soul of my dear Mom, Shirley Jean Radcliffe Dolan and for the consolation of my family and me. They are much appreciated. Might I give you an update on a few things? I promise to be brief.
Usually I breeze through the three morning papers here – – the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, and the Daily News – – if I look at them at all. But this morning two articles made me slow down and read them carefully.
Come join me as I take you to some of my favorite Catholic spots in New York over the coming weeks. From Old Saint Patrick’s to the Seton Shrine, and even a tavern in between — see Cardinal Dolan’s New York on my social media channels starting tomorrow at 10AM EST
A blessed summer to all! When I think about the word recreation, I think of God re-creating us. We all need time to pray, reflect & spend time with family. I’ll be taking some time off from social media, but you can still check my page for reflections, updates & previous videos
Aspirations are simple, short prayers. They are simple to say and lift our minds up to the Lord. There are tons of them — here are a few I like to say! Aspirations are simple, short prayers. They are simple to say and lift our minds up to the Lord.
One of the intentions for which we can offer up our prayers is for the poor souls in purgatory. These are the souls that are waiting for God’s infinitive mercy in Heaven. We can help them with our prayers.
Here’s my homily from this morning’s Mass. Today we celebrate the feast of the early martyrs in Rome. It gives us a chance to recall that persecution of the Church still goes on throughout the world.
Offer it up. Take your pain or worries and offer it up to Heaven and Jesus on the Cross. Pope Saint John Paul II called it redemptive suffering. Offer it up, folks! Offer it up. Take your pain or worries and offer it up to Heaven and Jesus on the Cross.
Here’s my homily from this morning’s Mass. Pope Saint John Paul II said that if we have nothing to die for, we have nothing to live for. It’s particularly true of the martyrs. I reflect on that as we celebrate the feast of Saints Peter and Paul today
Today I want to talk about relics – more often than not they are pieces of clothing or remains of saints that help us keep in touch with Jesus and the family we call the Church. I have two relics here I’d like to show you.
Our Catholic Traditions and Practices series continues today! Today I want to remind you of the six holy days of obligation. The Church excepts us to celebrate at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Do you remember what all six days are?
Growing up I remember hearing the word totalitarianism a lot. It’s a system of government that demands absolute control. In our faith, there’s only One who can demand total allegiance and that’s Almighty God.
Here’s my homily from today’s Mass. A Happy Father’s Day to all dads! God depends on them to be agents of His love, protection, and care. God the Father wanted His incarnate Son to have an earthly dad.
I mentioned I was going to go through the four Acts. Today we have the Act of Charity. O my God, I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul because you are all good and worthy of all my love.
Jesus became poor, so we could become rich. What exactly does that mean? Jesus left the eternal bliss of Heaven and became flesh and died on the Cross, so He could give us all the riches of Heaven. The Divine became human, so human could become divine
