Thankful for God's Protection

We unite with the entire community in thanking God for His protection during the hurricane, in asking His ongoing help for the clean-up and recovery, in commending to Him those of our neighbors who were harmed — and, in New Jersey and Connecticut, those who lost their lives — and in praising God for the preparation, vigilance, and care of our civic officials, volunteers, and emergency personnel.

About two-dozen of our parishes, schools, and charitable and healthcare institutions experienced damage.  I am grateful to our Insurance Division and Building Commission for their response.

Our parishes remained centers of refuge, prayer, and outreach.  Our Catholic Charities were part of the community response, and our Catholic people rose to the occasion as volunteers.  Monsignor Gregory Mustaciuolo was in constant touch with emergency management to see how we could be of more help.
